Study Abroad

The department strongly supports the study of international cinema and makes every effort to help students pursue their individual interests in world film. Film Studies offerings abroad are generally limited to two courses for majors and one course for minors. Before enrolling, students must obtain approval from their Film Studies advisor for their proposed courses and should identify alternate options in case specific courses are unavailable during the term abroad.

Courses taken abroad are generally applied toward major electives. In some cases, equivalent courses offered abroad may substitute for required courses if their syllabi are sufficiently similar in content and approach. Programs in France, Spain, Italy, England, Scotland, and Australia have historically been the most successful. Students should consult their advisor if they hope to fulfill specific program requirements through courses taken abroad.

Film Studies courses taken abroad do not fulfill the Arts Core requirement, except for a limited number of pre-approved courses offered through AV研究所 Study Abroad Programs and listed in the Pre-Approved Courses list.
