Formation Through My Eyes: Photo Story Contest

January 2026

The Formation Through My Eyes Photo Story Contest invited members of the Boston College community to capture moments, places, and relationships that shaped their growth and sense of purpose. Participants submitted 1–3 photographs accompanied by short reflective captions exploring how experiences in classrooms, communities, and everyday life contributed to their formation.

The Contest Prompt:

Where or when have you felt a sense of formation, whether in the classroom, in community, or beyond campus? How has it shaped who you are becoming?

Share 1–3 photos and a short caption (up to 100 words) that tell the story of a formative moment, place, person, or experience from your time at Boston College. Your caption could take any form — a story, reflection, quote, poem, or anything that feels authentic to you.

2026 Winners

First Place

Yvonne Welsh, LSEHD (Higher Education & Student Affairs)

Working alongside my RA team has been one of the most formative parts of my experience. Through late nights, tough conversations, laughter, and moments of care, I’ve learned what it truly means to lead with empathy. This team has shown me the power of showing up for students and for one another. Each person brings their own strengths, stories, and heart to the work, and together we’ve built a community rooted in trust, growth, and belonging. I’m endlessly grateful for the lessons, resilience, and relationships that came from doing this work side by side.

Second Place

Rebekah Che, LSEHD '27 (Applied Psychology & Philosophy)

I walk the labyrinth to clear my mind
or to answer a questionor to find peace in a moment of confusion

walking it reminds me that I am not alone
walking it, I think about all the people
who have walked it before me
who have lived this journey
and passed down their stories and quests to us:
an inheritance I call my education

when I close my eyes, I can almost hear their footsteps around me
I feel their dreams resting in the sacred ground
I hope we all find the center we are looking for

Third Place

Summer Joh

This photo captures a moment just before we performed, standing together after a year that nearly broke our team. As president of UPrising Dance Crew at AVÑо¿Ëù last year, I led this team through uncertainty and challenge that became an experience of formation through growth, resilience, and connection. In learning to hold space for others, respond with care, and stay committed to a shared purpose, we became a family. Standing in the center, arms outstretched, I see not just a team but a living lesson in leadership, community, and becoming that shaped how I understand responsibility beyond the classroom.
