AERA 2026 Recognitions
Assistant Professor Faythe Beauchemin received the 2026 Early Career Award from the听 Narrative Research SIG. The award honors early-career researchers for demonstrating outstanding accomplishments in narrative research.
AERA named Associate Professor Andr茅s Castro Samayoa as a for 2027鈥�2029. During his term, Samoyoa will bring visionary leadership to one of the field鈥檚 most influential journals.听
Associate Professor Vincent Cho was elected Member-at-Large of the SIG Executive Committee of the . A former teacher and administrator, Cho鈥檚 research explores how technologies and data systems shape school leadership and decision-making.
Professor Eric Dearing was selected as one of the 2026 AERA Fellows by the American Educational Research Association. Founded in 1916, the AERA program honors outstanding education scholars who demonstrate excellence in education research. Dearing is also executive director of the Mary E. Walsh Center for Thriving Children.
Associate Professor Lauri Johnson received the 2026 Social Justice Teaching Award from the Leadership for Social Justice SIG, AERA. Presented by UCEA president-elect Miriam Ezzani, the award serves as recognition of Johnson鈥檚 outstanding social justice teaching in the field of educational leadership.

To celebrate the release of PBS鈥檚 documentary HENRY DAVID THOREAU, the Department of Formative Education hosted an exclusive prescreening, where directors Erik Ewers and Christopher Loren Ewers participated in a panel discussion with Visiting Professor听Kristen Case, sharing their passion for the project and engaging the community.

Learning, Design, and Technology Showcase
The Learning, Design, and Technology (LDT) program hosted a celebration to honor the work of the graduating cohort of M.A. students. Graduates had the opportunity to share their experiences, showcase their final portfolios, and highlight their practicum placements in front of a group of faculty, friends, and prospective students.

The Mary T. Kinnane Award recognizes outstanding achievement and excellence in academics, service, and character. Kayla Edwards, M.A. 鈥�26, was the recipient of this year鈥檚 Mary T. Kinnane Award for Excellence in Higher Education.

Character Resources Workshop
On April 13-14, Dean Stanton Wortham and Tyler J. VanderWeele, professor of Epidemiology and director of the Human Flourishing Program at Harvard University, hosted a workshop on Character and Flourishing Trends and Resources for Schools and Universities. The invited workshop brought together a group of researchers and practitioners to reflect on the state of the field and identify effective tools for character formation.听
