Biography

Hanyi Livia Yi is an Assistant Professor of Finance in the Seidner Department of Finance at the Boston College Carroll School of Management. Dr. Yi's research spans household finance, public finance, and entrepreneurship. Her work has been published in leading journals in finance and economics, including The Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, and Journal of Public Economics. Her research has received best-paper awards and has been featured in media outlets such as The Economist, Forbes, and Business Insider. Professor Yi's recent work examines how algorithmic underwriting and financial intermediaries affect credit access and consumer protection for vulnerable households, how population aging influences municipal finance and local public services, and how the rise of gig-economy platforms and remote work reshapes entrepreneurial entry and labor market dynamics.

She earned undergraduate degrees in Finance and Physics, with distinction, from the University of Notre Dame and received her Ph.D. in Finance from Rice University.
