Public Health Student Organizations at Boston College

Boston College students听lead a number of听clubs听and organizations dedicated to key issues in Global Public Health. While our faculty members advise these听clubs听from time to time and sometimes speak at their events, these clubs听are entirely student run.


The following听clubs听provide听Boston College students with excellent opportunities听to learn about听public health, do meaningful work, and meet friends and colleagues.听 We encourage interested students to explore them.

Description:听鈥淭he American Red Cross of Boston College works to strengthen awareness of the importance of blood donation.We host four annual blood drives, making blood donation education and donating opportunities accessible to Boston College and the surrounding community. We strive to promote the charitable act of blood donation because of the benefit that a safe, growing, and reliable blood supply has in making life-saving medical treatments and procedures successful.Additionally, we host numerous outreach trips to local food pantries in order to assist those who are less fortunate. Lastly, we work in conjunction with 鈥淪ound the Alarm鈥 to install smoke detectors and provide fire safety education to the nearby Boston community.鈥

Description:听Mission: to build a world-wide movement empowering the poor for equal access to healthcare, education and a safe home. Our meetings are mainly based on discussions about public health issues such as听 women鈥檚 health, racial disparities, vaccine development, language barriers in healthcare, among others.

Charity Water

Description:听696 million people lack basic access to clean and safe drinking water. Clean water changes everything: it improves health, enables access to education, and strengthens local economies. Charity Water directs 100% of every donation to fund clean water projects around the world, and provides full transparency through photos, videos, and GPS coordinates of every project. Since 2011, the Boston College chapter of charity: water has worked to educate the AV研究所 community on the impacts of the water crisis and how to make a difference. Through creative, on-campus fundraisers, the club has raised over $110,000, fully funding 6 water projects and contributing to 13 more, providing clean water to over 3,600 people around the world.

Description:听Bioethics Society of Boston College is an interdisciplinary group established in 2018 for the students of Boston College to explore emerging topics in the field of bioethics. The club hosts experts from various fields including medicine, philosophy, law, and theology. Bioethics Society of Boston College provides a forum for students to consider complex issues and engage in stimulating conversations.

Description: Boston College EMS is a student-run, all-volunteer, quick-response emergency medical care provider founded in 1997. AV研究所 EMS serves both members of the Boston College community and听guests to the Boston College campus.听They operate 7 days a week and provide coverage of campus events through strategically placed foot teams, as well as campus-wide coverage with our Class V non-transporting ambulance. In addition to its role as a care provider, Boston College EMS has a commitment to advancing medical听education and promoting health and safety among EMTs and students alike through lectures and classes.

Description: Climate Justice at Boston College (CJAV研究所) is dedicated to combating the climate crisis by calling upon Boston College to lead by example and take decisive actions that ensure a just and stable future for all. We are united by our grave concerns regarding the escalating dangers of human-caused climate change and our conviction to create positive change through activism. CJAV研究所 educates fellow students on equity issues related to the climate crisis and how they can make a difference. We work with the greater AV研究所 community and national climate movement to strengthen social and political support for climate justice.

Global Medical Brigades of Boston College Logo

Description: Boston College is a chapter of Global Medical Brigades, an international movement of students and medical professionals working alongside local communities and staff to implement sustainable health systems. They work in remote, rural, and under resourced communities in Honduras, Panama, Nicaragua and Ghana who would otherwise have limited to no access to health care. In conjunction with our Medical Program, Global Brigades also supports communities with economic development, sanitation and clean water projects, and uniquely implements these programs in a holistic model to meet a community鈥檚 health and economic goals.

One for the World Logo

Description:听One for the World's mission is to end global extreme poverty by raising awareness about effective altruism and philanthropy on campus. We use rigorous, data-driven charity selection to recommend the most effective charities to donate one's dollars to. OFTW also provides a platform for students to donate 1% of their post-graduate income to these charities, a portfolio that is updated every year so that donations are always as impactful as possible.

Timmy Global Health

Description: Boston College Timmy Global Health works alongside our international partner clinic, 32 Volcanes, in Xela, Guatemala. Student volunteers travel to Guatemala every August to provide care to patients in 5 different communities over the course of one week. Timmy Global Health also holds monthly meetings where all students are welcome to come and discuss global health issues.
